June Wrap-Up

Fiber Prep

  • Corriedale combing - finished!
  • Gulf Coast Native Rolags - also finished!
  • I played with the drum carder a little and made a couple batts

Spinning

Flatiron

  • I FINISHED my Gulf Coast Native spin.  I ended up with 5 skeins weighing in at  17.7 oz (502 g) and totaling 1,392 yards.

Kiwi 3

  • I am now finished spinning all the singles (filling 5 bobbins), on to plying for Tour de Fleece

Knitting

Finished

  • Nightshift
  • Festive Yoke Sweater
  • 2-ply Shropshire socks

On the Needles

  • Nothing...I know!  I finished the socks and since it was already June 29 I decided I would just wait until July 1 to cast anything on.  This is weird.  I never have 0 WIPs.

June Mid-Month Check In

The thing about working on big projects is that for a long time it feels like there is nothing new or exciting to report.  So goes my June...

The only thing new on my needles is a pair of socks from my hand-dyed hand-spun Shropshire.  This  lives in my purse as my on-the-go knitting.

I'm making good progress on my Festive Yoke sweater now that I've finished everything else.  I have a few more inches on the body and then I can move on to the sleeves.  I am able to get in at least some knitting most nights before bed, and as long as I keep doing that I think I will be able to finish it up before we leave on vacation later this summer.

Spinning feels the same- big projects where I can see the light at the end of the tunnel, but still plenty to do.

My Flatiron project remains my Gulf Coast Native fleece.  I 'm currently spinning bobbin #5 and all the remaining fleece is now in rolag form.  I'm optimistic I can finish this up by the end of the month.

I'm on my 4th bobbin of Corriedale on the Kiwi.  I've reached a point where I comb up some nests, spin them, then comb up some more.  I expect that I will be working on this for the rest of the summer.  I'm taking a break from it for Tour de Fleece though.
