I know this is the time of year fiber people like to set goals and intentions and do up make 9s and all of that.
A few years ago I realized making a "Make 9" was the quickest way for me to NOT make those specific projects so I stopped doing that.
Last year I posted here about some of my goals. I feel pretty good about what I wrote I wanted to do and how much of it I actually did do.
This year though, I realized I don't have any real goals for my knitting or spinning or anything else fiber arts related and I don't really want to either.
So if there is an intention I have for 2023 it is to let myself to be free to do whatever it is that I feel like doing. No goals of using up this, learning that, etc. when it comes to my actual making.
I do have one intention though- and that has to do with my collection of books.
Over the years I have built up quite a little library. I've purged some things, but I continue to add to it. It used to be a lot of pattern books, and I still get those sometimes, but these days the books that come in are more discussions of specific topics. Sometimes it is techniques, a lot of time it is traditional methods or history behind specific traditions. In the last couple years especially, I have added some books to my shelf that I've really only glanced through. It is high time I invest some time into actually reading them and maybe even applying that knowledge.
What I actually make this year doesn't matter, but I want follow my own lead more in 2023. I really enjoy the "community" aspect of the fiber arts in on-line spaces. It can be enlightening and inspiring. I feel like sometimes the "ohh shiny! new! everyone is doing this thing now!" aspect drowns out my own creative spirit though. So while I'm not going to leave those on-line spaces, I want to be more intentional about gaining my own knowledge and prioritizing my own interests over whatever designer/podcaster/knitfluencer is on about today.
