October Wrap-Up

Fiber Prep

  • I don't think I've really done much of any this month.  If I have, it has been flicking Shetland on the lock pop.

Spinning

Flatiron

  • I spun some Merino humbug fiber and made a nice skein with good color preservation by spinning from the fold.  I ended up with an aran weight 2-ply, about 150 yards.

Kiwi

  • I spun a 2-ply fractal of American Rambouillet dyed by Fresh Lotus designs.  I came up with a worsted weight 2-ply, about 160 yards.

Knitting

Finished

  • West Coast Mittens - these are fingerless mitts from one of the remaining skeins of handspun I had used on my Nightshift shawl.  The pattern is free and by Diana Twiss.  I'm using these a lot, it is nice way to use up some handspun.
  • Lisabet Mittens- this is the second pattern from The Nordic Mitten Club by Skeindeer knits.  Can I admit these were not my favorite to knit?  The pattern had me holding yarn double for stranded colorwork, and I learned that just is not my favorite thing to do.  The resulting mittens are fine, I did not opt to make them convertible.

On the Needles

  • Whiskey, Neat by Thea Colman.  This sweater pattern grabbed my attention immediately when it was released last month, but I didn't have the right yarn for it in stash.  Then a few weeks ago I saw an IG post where Harrisville Designs announced the release of a new yarn, Shear (2).  This yarn was perfect and had a good price point to boot, so I ordered the yarn and cast on almost immediately last Friday.  I have both sleeves done and have started the body now.
  • Full of Joy by Kira Wharton.  I am knitting this lace shawl out of some deep stash yarn I picked up years ago at the GLFS from Persimmon Tree Farm.  The colors are perfectly autumnal and so it is a really great seasonal knit to work on.
