September/3Q Wrap-Up

I took a little bit of a break from posting , both here and on Instagram.  Sometimes a little bit of a break is nice.

I am also on a little bit of a break from WIPs at the moment.  Much like at the end of June, I've reached the end of September having cleared the needles and the wheel.  Looking back, I haven't really done a proper monthly wrap-up since then, so I think I will just make this my 3rd quarter wrap-up and try to cover everything I've done since then:

Fiber Prep

  • Earlier this month I purchased 3(!!) fleeces from a local friend/fiber guild member.  Two are from Shetland ewes and one is the "baby" fleece as she called it from a Kerry Hill Ram.  All 3 of these fleeces were skirted and then scoured.
    • I am flicking the Kerry Hill fleece on the lock pop and then putting the locks on the drum carder to create batts.  I have done several already but have at least a few more pounds of clean fleece to work through.
    • Shetland fleece #1 is from a ewe named Venus.  I am also using the lock pop to open up the locks, but once I have them flicked open I am leaving them as is.  I think they are probably too fine to do well on the drum carder, I think I will just be spinning the flicked locks as is, maybe from the fold.  I have started this but also have at least a pound to work through yet.
    • Shetland fleece #2 is from a ewe named Rose.  I haven't started on her fleece yet.

Spinning

Flatiron

  • In August I spun a braid of Falkland.  This was a nice, default yarn type spin, 2 ply.108 g and 169 yards.
  • In September I followed suit and spun up the September Top of the Month Club braid from Three Waters Farm.  This was Targhee and I spun it in a 2-ply fractal.  I haven't done the measurements and calculations on this one yet.

Kiwi 3

  • I spun a braid of BFL that was gray and overdyed a pretty teal. I turned it into a 3-ply with the intention of making gloves from it.  I'm a little worried it might have turned out too thick and too low yardage though.  It is worsted, bordering on aran weight and only about 110 yards.

Knitting

Finished

  • Minted hat by Andrea Mowry. This is knit from Blue Sky Brushed Suri and leftover sock yarn I dyed in a very similar pale pink.
  • (no need to) Panic Sweater by Casapinka.  I really love this sweater, it is knit in Kelbourne Woolens Scout.
  • Pure Fuzz by Skeindeer knits.  This was knit from Knit Picks Wonderfluff which I was very curious to try out and was really quite pleased with how nice it was to work with.
  • Aslaug mittens by Skeindeer Knits, this is the first pattern in the new Nordic Mitten Club.
  • Tjukk Haust by Skeindeer Knits.  This was another fun, quick sweater knit in Wool of the Andes Bulky.
  • A pair of vanilla socks with my last skein of Voolenvine sock yarn from the gothic yarn club she did a few years back.

On the Needles

  • Nothing yet :-D  I do have a swatch drying of the Gulf Coast Native yarn I spun up earlier this year.  I would like to turn that yarn into a sweater soon, so gathering vital information.
